Rumble in Athens between Russian and Ukrainian sports fans

first_img Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagram There had been warning signs about the arrival of Dynamo Kiev fans in Athens, and the followers of the Ukrainian football team cerainly lived up to them. The warning, of course, had come from an unexpected source, the anarchist group Rubicon, which issued a statement against the fans of the team, following Dynamo to Athens, where it faced AEK (the match ended in a draw), deeming them as fascists looking for trouble. Trouble did ensue, but not among the ‘fascists’ and the ‘anarchists’, but among Ukrainians and Russians. On Thursday afternoon, a group consisting of approximately fourty Dynamo Kiev fans, according to some reports, engaged in a fight in a cafeteria in the popular neighbourhood of Kolonaki. It all started with a heated exchange of words between the Ukrainian sportsfans and a group of Russian punters exiting the cafe. The incident escalated quickly with the two groups engaging in physical altercation, breaking tables and windows. The brawl came to an end when the police arrived, arresting 18 of those engaged in fight.News website ‘iefimerida’ posted a video of the incident that shook the upmarket neighbourhood.last_img read more
